Apr. 8, 2008 (China Knowledge) - China has abundant grain reserve of about 150 million to 200 million tons and is able to feed its 1.3 billion people, said the Chinese premier Wen Jiabao during its two-day spring planting inspection in North China's Hebei province.

China's grain output reached 500 billion kilograms last year, representing a fourth consecutive annual growth and the government will spend RMB 562.5 billion to support farmers and the rural sector this year, according to Wen.

He also stressed that the country's self-reliance in feeding its 1.3 billion people with its own grain production was a great contribution to the world.

In order to subsidize farmers' purchase of seed, diesel, fertilizers and other production materials, the State Council announce last month to add RMB 25.25 billion to the rural budget of 2008 .
