BEIJING, Feb 8 (Reuters) - China's production of natural gas rose to 69.31 billion cubic metres (bcm) last year, Xinhua news agency reported on Friday, quoting an industry body. This figure, which came from the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Association (CPCIA), was higher than the 66.61 bcm total reported earlier by the National Bureau of Statistics. China has accelerated development of natural gas, a relatively clean fuel which now supplies just 3 percent of its energy needs, as part of a drive to cut pollution. The CPCIA reiterated its forecast that China would produce 76 bcm of natural gas this year. Output in 2006 reached 58.55 bcm. |
