Feb. 18, 2008 (China Knowledge) - Two Taiwanese enterprises listed on Fortune 500, Formosa Plastics Group (FPG) and Advanced Semiconductor Engineering Inc. (ASI) have got the green light from Taiwan's economic authorities to invest in the mainland, with total value up to US$100 million and US$30 million, respectively. Taipei-based FPG plans to invest US$100 million to build a stainless-steel plant in Zhangzhou, Fujian Province. While ASI, based in Kaohsiung, will increase its investment in its existing chip packaging and testing factory in Shanghai by US$30 million. Founded in 1954, FPG is the world's second-largest maker of polyvinyl chloride (PVC), and it has more than 10 subsidiaries in Taiwan with a businesses range from oil refining, petrochemicals, plastic raw materials, secondary processing of plastics, fiber and textile, electronic materials, machinery, and transportation. ASI, as the world's biggest chip packager and tester, specializes in manufacturing obsolete and hard-to-find components for both replacement purposes and new designs since it was established in 1979. |
