Feb. 19, 2008 (China Knowledge) - FAW Group Corp, one of China's third largest vehicle makers, said it sold 166,518 vehicles in January, a rise of 46.9% year-on-year. This surge in sales follows a general increase in vehicle sales in 2007 of 23.2%, as compared to 2006. It had an output of 1.47 million motor vehicles last year and sold 1.44 million. Sedan sales rose 58.3% to 146,294 units while medium and heavy-duty truck sales grew 11.6% to 11,263. FAW VW, a large-scale passenger car production joint venture with Volkswagen AG, sold 65,709 cars in January, a surge of 104.8% from a year earlier. Tianjin FAW Toyota Motor, its joint venture with Toyota Motor Corp. <7203>, sold 34,139 cars last year, up 69.8%. FAW Group is a leading global manufacturer of quality passenger cars, trucks, and buses. To speed up the expansion of its international market, FAW has exported its products to more than 50 countries and regions in the world including Africa and the middle and South America. |
